BOTOX® (or other botulinum toxin) treatment is a revolutionary approach to reversing the effects of facial wrinkles. Smile lines, squint lines, crow’s feet, and “elevens” can all be a thing of the past. Dynamic wrinkle lines are treatable with this simple, almost painless procedure. By Injecting botulinum toxin into facial muscles, they are no longer able to contract as strongly, which leaves a smooth, refreshed, “just had the best sleep of your life” look. Our goal is to help you age more gracefully, not to give you a “frozen” look.
BOTOX® For TMJ disorders, Headaches, Grinding and Clenching
If you have a TMJ Disorder, headaches, or migraines, and your Dentist determines you are a candidate for BOTOX® (or other botulinum toxin) treatment, your specific diagnosis and severity of your condition will determine how much treatment you will need. Just like with Botox cosmetic, the injections are almost painless, and results from about three minutes of injections can last up to three months.
With repeated treatment every three months, some patients might even lose the clenching and grinding habit altogether.
To better understand your overall health, we will evaluate your medical history prior to treatment. In addition, a facial exam is carefully completed in order to decide if you are a good candidate and to determine the most effective injection sites. All issues and concerns will be discussed. The areas that will be treated are marked with an erasable marker and photographs are taken to compare to final results.
The BOTOX® Procedure
BOTOX® injections are nearly painless, and performed without anesthesia. A tiny sting is felt during injections. The effects are not permanent and need to be repeated every three months to retain the effects. Research has suggested that long-term use of the injections leads to a longer duration of each treatment’s effect. Patients over the age of 65 may not experience results as dramatic. Since Botox treats muscles, it is only useful in treating expression lines and cannot be used to repair sagging skin caused by aging.
Due to the nature of injections, patients may experience bruising around the area that quickly fades. Normal activities can be performed immediately. Possible side effects are temporary weakness of nearby muscles or in rare cases an eyelid may droop. BOTOX® is completely reversible so any side effect is only a temporary condition. The doctor will explain all risks associated at the time of your consultation.
As skin ages, it begins to lose a substance called hyaluronic acid (HA). This substance adds structure and volume, and a lack of HA causes skin to sag and wrinkle. That’s where dermal fillers come into play. Unlike face lifts that stretch the skin, dermal fillers are smooth, injectable gels made from naturally occurring hyaluronic acid. The use of dermal fillers adds volume for a more natural, youthful appearance. Dermal fillers are a simple and safe prescription product used to restore volume to the area around the mouth, adds fullness to the lips, balances uneven lip lines, erases the downward frown lines at the corners of the mouth. The procedure takes 30-45 minutes, leaves no marks or scars, and the results can be seen immediately. The effects of the treatment typically last 6-12 months.
Due to the nature of injections, patients may experience bruising around the area that quickly fades. Normal activities can be performed immediately, as long as the patient is sure not to manipulate the injection sites for about 48 hours.
